Instead of talking about the quality of this product, which is of the highest quality, I want to talk about Seinfeld. It’s a show about nothing and everything. My Dad introduced me to it, probably earlier than he should have. It was always on TV in our house. I didn’t get most of the jokes, and why would I? I was too young. But it made him laugh, a lot. I knew if he thought it was funny, then it must’ve been funny. He would patiently explain things I didn’t understand and answer my questions when I watched with him. Eventually, I started laughing too.
The characters are iconic. The storylines are legendary. The comedy is timeless. Seinfeld helped popularize, canonize, and (arguably) introduce many things into the pop culture lexicon that persist to this day. Things like the close talker, or double dipping, or yada yada yada. It helped shape my connection with pop culture and many of the things I love today.
Casual Fridays is all about being comfortable. This show is exactly that. It's a comfort show, one that I can have on in the background or sit down and thoroughly enjoy. It's a show that's endlessly relatable, from the characters, to the situations they experienced, to the feelings they had in those moments. It's a show about a group of friends experiencing life together. The good and the bad. The one constant was each other. What's more comfortable than that? The shirt I designed was my attempt to encapsulate that feeling.
Watching a show about nothing with my Dad, meant everything to me.
